A Time to Dance Review by Kara Lorin-Basiga (San Jose, CA, United States)

A once perfect couple is going through a process of divorce after 22 years of marriage. They thought that divorce is the only option left to end their empty lifeless union.

Having a wonderful family is a blessing. Keeping a wonderful marriage is not just a choice; it is like actually fighting for all the wonderful things you have ever known in life. Marriage is a wonderful thing to happen in a man's life, blessed by God, and should be kept with unconditional love until the end.

Being a newlywed, I find it odd reading this book at this point. How the author lay the story in this book had actually made me see the problem at the point of view of both the husband and wife. I can feel how Abby and John fought for their love, and I find it really inspiring that God's word was there all along reminding them of what God's plan was, not just for these two characters but to all the couples who at this point maybe are in the verge of trouble. This story also justifies the essence of communication which plays a very vital role not just in marriage, but in every important relationship. This inspirational book is indeed an eye-opener that in Christian marriage, divorce should not be an easy option.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. I got this book as a complimentary copy from Thomas Nelson in exchange for my honest review.

A Time to Dance Review by Rochelle Sanders

Both of these books form an incredible series that studies the power, love, and tribulation that accompanies any form of long-time commitment--especially marriage. Karen isn't afraid to tackle tough issues that people can relate to, no matter what their spiritual beliefs. However, I defy anyone who reads her books to not be touched, and drawn toward exploring the deeper meaning of God's love, forgiveness, and mercy. Loved this series so much!!

A Time to Dance Review by HeatherHH

This is the second book that I've read by Karen Kingsbury. I enjoyed this one too, even though it's a very different story from Unlocked. The author is a skilled writer, who's very good at descriptions and naturally weaving spiritual messages and Christian faith into her stories. Her descriptions are also very good, and in general, her characterization is outstanding.

However, I felt this book was good, but not great. I liked the premise of the "perfect" couple drifting apart and ready to announce their impending divorce just as their daughter announces her impending wedding! However, while I felt Abby's characterization was outstanding, and I understood and believed her change, I felt the characterization of John was more so-so in the latter half of the book. At one point, it seemed like he'd come to a mental decision to commit himself to his marriage, and then I'm surprised to see him proceeding in the opposite direction. This happened a couple times, and it didn't come across as a man struggling, but as a sharp disconnect. I couldn't get a handle for what was going on in his head. Until this point, both John and Abby really seemed to step off the page for me.

I loved how the author depicts the couple both hearing God's voice, the thought process and how they come to reject what they know they are supposed to do. It's really so true for how most of us act at one time or another when we don't want to do what we know we should. I loved how John especially saw God speaking to him in so many ways, directing him back to the right path.

I found the story compelling on the whole. I do wish that there'd been a bit more shared of the process of their reconciliation, as the author only really shows their struggle, their past history, and then their decision to reconcile. But, I enjoyed it well enough to order the sequel A Time to Embrace (Timeless Love Series).
